Fellow Conservative,
This week, Heritage Action struck back against the left-wing weaponization of government and secured a major court victory on behalf of the grassroots and all conservatives. Heritage Action is also engaging in critical fights on Capitol Hill and laying a strong foundation for conservatives before Congress takes its summer break in August.
Heritage Action v FEC and CLC: 1-0
Heritage Action has won a legal victory over the partisan Campaign Legal Center (CLC) who wrongfully tried to force the disclosure of the names and addresses of Heritage Action’s confidential grassroots supporters.
At the same time, by using the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), this victory exposed that the supposedly non-partisan Federal Election Commission (FEC) has been allowing Left-wing allies like CLC to use and abuse FEC authority for the purpose of targeting and attacking conservative organizations for years.
This is all part of a larger and disturbing trend which has seen government authority weaponized against American citizens - particularly conservatives. We have also seen:
- The politicization of intelligence agencies used against a sitting president and everyday Americans alike
- The weaponization of the IRS to target and harass conservative organizations
- Federal law enforcement collude with social media outlets to censor speech that dissents from the narrative they want to push
- And the list goes on…
This victory over the FEC and CLC is not just a win for Heritage Action, but also a win for every American who wishes to live in a country free of government weaponization. It also serves as a shot across the bow that not only will conservatives fight back against this corruption, but they can win as well.

How Conservatives Can Cut Spending
The federal government is in a financial problem of its own making. Congress’s shocking lack of self-discipline has led to runaway federal spending contributing to more than $32.5 trillion in national debt- triggering an inflationary cycle that has been eating away at your hard earned money.
Americans are demanding that Congress get their fiscal house in order, and pass appropriations bills (legislation providing authority for the government to spend money) that actually spend less money and reduce the deficit. The so-called Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) negotiated between House leadership and the White House fails to accomplish this reduction.
The current fiscal year (FY23) ends at midnight on September 30, 2023. Soon, Congress will enter its August recess with the Senate scheduled to return on September 5th, and the House on September 12th. Congress should waste no time in developing a plan to cut spending through the appropriations process.
Conservatives now have a chance to reign in spending beyond what was negotiated in the FRA by limiting spending in the upcoming annual appropriations bills.
The Heritage Foundation’s Budget Blueprint <[link removed]> provides over $12 trillion on potential deficit reduction over the next 10 years by targeting wasteful spending, corporate welfare, disruptive subsidies, and more. To learn more about this process and what Congress needs to do, you can read our Blog Post HERE. <[link removed]>

Defending Checks and Balances
The Left have become increasingly enraged with the current Supreme Court for its recent rulings. For years, Democrats have run an egregious smear campaign trying to delegitimize the authority of the Supreme Court, going so far as to politically threaten Supreme Court justices and encourage protests outside their homes.
Heritage Action has documented the many times the Left has called for the change and manipulation of the Supreme Court over the past few years.

Now, the Senate Judiciary Democrats have advanced the misleadingly named “Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act” in an effort to punish the current Supreme Court for their recent rulings.
In a recent press release, Heritage Actions Acting Executive Director Ryan Walker wrote:
“Though disguised as an attempt to address Supreme Court ethics, this bill is a politically motivated effort to punish the current Supreme Court for rightfully returning to a textual reading of the Constitution, leading to outcomes that have blocked recent executive overreach and unconstitutional actions in various cases.”
This is a vicious and cynical attack on the checks and balances that exist in our Constitution. It is unacceptable for one branch of government to reach outside its boundaries and attack another branch for political gain.
Heritage Action is watching this situation closely and will keep you updated on what you can do to fight back.

Mayorkas Investigations Heat Up
The House Committee on Homeland Security, chaired by Mark Green (R-Tenn.) released the first phase interim report <[link removed]> in the Committee’s ongoing investigation into Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
In the report, the committee states:
“One obvious obligation inherent to the DHS [Department of Homeland Security] secretary’s job is securing the nation’s border… The evidence documented throughout this report will demonstrate that Mayokas has been, and continues to be, derelict in the solemn duty to secure the nation's borders…”
Since Biden made Mayorkas head of DHS, he has overseen a record influx of illegal immigrants amounting to 6 million illegal migrants <[link removed]> from over 160 countries, including millions of unaccounted “got-aways.” The open border has contributed to a tragic humanitarian crisis that has resulted in an increased flow of drug trafficking, human trafficking <[link removed]>, and sex trafficking.
>>>Read our Secure the Border Toolkit HERE <[link removed]>
DHS has even lost track of over 85,000 unaccompanied children <[link removed]> who have crossed the border. Mayorkas’ dereliction of duty has led to unnecessary human suffering and it’s beyond time that he be held accountable.
Heritage Action will be closely watching this week as Secretary Mayorkas testifies in front of the House Judiciary Committee <[link removed]> on Wednesday.

We have many uphill battles to fight. It will take the participation of everyone to make sure conservative principles and policies prevail and the Left continues to retreat.
Thank you for all the work you do.
