THE WEEK'S BIG 3
Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. advanced a dangerous conspiracy theory this week that the coronavirus could have been a bioweapon “deliberately targeted” to spare Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese people while disproportionately attacking White and Black people, drawing outrage from Jewish and Asian-American advocacy groups. Speaking before a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, Israeli President Isaac Herzog made an impassioned argument in defense of Israel’s “vibrant democracy” at a time that internal divisions at home and left-wing criticism of Israel in Congress threatened to overshadow his speech. At least 145 incidents of anti-LGBTQ+
hate and extremism were recorded by GLAAD and the Anti-Defamation League in June during Pride 2023.
Read on for more on these headlines, news you can use to fight hate and the latest info about ADL from around the country.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Suggests Covid was Designed to Spare Jews, Chinese People
“There is an argument that it is ethnically targeted. Covid-19 attacks certain races disproportionately,” Kennedy said during a dinner on New York’s Upper East Side on Tuesday evening. “Covid-19 is targeted to attack Caucasians and Black people. The people who are most immune are Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese.” The Washington Post:

The claim that COVID-19 is a bioweapon engineered to spare Jews or Chinese people is preposterous. It feeds into conspiracy theories. It lacks any factual basis. I know RFK tried to clarify, but his best bet would be to leave science to the scientists.

In Address Focused on Israel’s Liberal and Democratic Values, Herzog Extends Olive Branch to Progressives
“Herzog’s speech was peppered with statements about the strength and importance of the U.S.-Israel partnership, earning bipartisan standing ovations throughout. But at its core, the address was an assertion of Israel’s liberal and democratic values, with lines that appealed to both pro-democracy protesters back home and progressive lawmakers in the U.S.” Jewish Insider:

Thank you, @SpeakerMcCarthy & @RepJeffries, for your bipartisan support for the US-Israel relationship. To echo President @Isaac_Herzog: it is time to design the next stage of our evolving friendship w/ Israel. That's how we move forward in the fight against #antisemitism & hate.

Today we honor the solemn memory of the martyrs lost in the #AMIA bombing, the deadliest terror attack in Argentina's history. In the last 3 decades, the evil Iranian regime has continued to threaten Jewish communities in #LATAM & around the world. It's long overdue for justice to be served & for the Islamic Republic to pay for its crimes against humanity.

One can disagree with the policies of the Israeli government without resorting to the slanderous charge of labeling Israel an apartheid state. On a day when Israeli Pres. Herzog, representing Israeli society, brings a message of democracy & constructive engagement, it's shameful that some Members of Congress propagate this inaccurate & dangerous narrative about the Jewish State.
