Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. advanced a dangerous conspiracy theory this week that the coronavirus could have been a bioweapon “deliberately targeted” to spare Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese people while disproportionately attacking White and Black people, drawing outrage from Jewish and Asian-American advocacy groups. Speaking before a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, Israeli President Isaac Herzog made an impassioned argument in defense of Israel’s “vibrant democracy” at a time that internal divisions at home and left-wing criticism of Israel in Congress threatened to overshadow his speech. At least 145 incidents of anti-LGBTQ+ hate and extremism were recorded by GLAAD and the Anti-Defamation League in June during Pride 2023.
