Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley Are Leading In Early State Visits So Far

FiveThirtyEight | Amelia DeVeaux

July 20, 2023

All of the Republican presidential candidates who aren't former President
Donald Trump are looking for some version of their Jimmy Carter moment. Way
back in 1976, Carter - then a little-known governor - invested heavily in
his Iowa ground game, won the caucuses and went on to clinch the Democratic
nomination.

Since then, his success has encouraged countless other candidates to visit
the first few nominating states early and often. And because their time is
finite, particularly for candidates who still have day jobs, looking at
where they're choosing to spend their time early in a primary contest can
tell us about their strategy and where they think they have the best chance
of breaking out of the pack. [1]Read more

Special election moves Republicans closer to Assembly supermajority

Wisconsin Examiner| Baylor Spears

July 20 2023

Republican Paul Melotik, an Ozaukee County supervisor from Grafton, beat
Democrat Paul Tatterson, a retired engineer from Mequon, in a special
election to represent Wisconsin’s 24th Assembly district Tuesday night.

Melotik’s win gives Republicans a 64-35 majority in the Assembly, just two
seats short of a two-thirds supermajority that would allow them to override
vetoes by Gov. Tony Evers. [2]Read more

Why Biden's Student Loan Plan Never Got More Traction

WG Economy | David Winston

July 19, 2023

Sherrod Brown is one of the most vulnerable Senate Democratic incumbents in
2024, making Ohio a prime opportunity for a Republican Senate pickup in a
cycle with a favorable map for Republicans. The backdrop of Biden policies
will play a large role in defining the Senate race, particularly as they
relate to the economy and inflation. Manufacturing is a key part of the
state’s economy, and the impact of regulatory requirements are being felt
throughout the manufacturing sector. [3]WG Economy, July 19, 2023.pdf

Popular Republican Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire announces decision on
re-election in 2024

Sununu, who was first elected governor in 2016, mulled a 2024 presidential
run before announcing last month

he wouldn't seek the White House

FOX News | Paul Steinhauser

July 19, 2023

Republican Gov. Chris Sununu says he won't seek re-election next year to
what would have been an unprecedented fifth two-year term steering the key
general election battleground state of New Hampshire.

Sununu, the popular governor who's been a staple on the national cable news
networks and Sunday talk shows, early last month passed on launching a
presidential campaign after seriously mulling a White House bid for over a
year. [4]Read more

The first Republican presidential primary debate is slated for Aug. 23 in
Milwaukee. Twelve candidates have entered the race to date, but some are

Why Republicans Shouldn't Ignore Bidenomics

WG Discussion Points | David Winston

July 14, 2023

The White House has launched the economic agenda that they call
“Bidenomics.” Our numbers show the electorate doesn’t believe many of the
President’s economic claims. At this point, a majority of the country (55%)
does not believe that President Biden’s economic plan is working (31-55
believe-do not believe), based on our latest survey for Winning the Issues
(June 19-21). In a series of statements promoting Bidenomics, we found that
voters don't believe most of those statements, as shown in the chart. [6]WG
