Last month, the Supreme Court struck down Alabama’s original map for violating the Voting Rights Act because it racially gerrymandered districts to exclude Black Alabamians.

This week, Alabama’s governor called for a special legislative session to draw up a new map that more accurately represents Black Alabamians.

But the same Republican lawmakers who contributed to the first gerrymandered map are involved in drawing up this new one. The new map they proposed this Monday is still biased against Black Alabamians.

That’s why our grantees in Alabama are working non-stop to demand transparency and justice before tomorrow’s map submission deadline.
