Truth Initiative – which has long worked toward a future where commercial tobacco and nicotine addiction are a thing of the past – supports policies designed to accelerate progress toward a future free from commercial tobacco and the predatory influences of the tobacco industry. Policies to achieve this tobacco-free future decrease the access, appeal, and addictiveness of products; increase cessation interventions and services; and denormalize all tobacco use, ultimately relegating it to a behavior of the past.

E-cigarette market surges amid urgent need for comprehensive regulation and enforcement

A study ([link removed]) released by the CDC in collaboration with CDC Foundation and Truth Initiative found that e-cigarette monthly unit sales increased by 46.6% between January 2020 and December 2022, with the total number of e-cigarette brands increasing 46.2% during that time, from 184 to 269. These data are the latest in a growing body of research exposing concerning trends in an e-cigarette market flooded with flavored products with increasingly high concentrations of nicotine.

What is Zyn and what are oral nicotine pouches?

With cigarette smoking on the decline, tobacco companies have shifted focus to “smokeless” tobacco products, including oral nicotine pouches. Oral nicotine pouches are used similarly to snus – an oral pouch containing shredded tobacco leaf – but unlike snus, they contain a nicotine powder instead of tobacco leaf. Nicotine pouches contain nicotine which is harmful to young people in any form. Due to the absence of tobacco leaf, the Food and Drug Administration does not classify oral nicotine pouches as a smokeless tobacco product.
