Although Roe v. Wade was never enough to protect abortion rights for far too many people, its repeal was a historic loss for our country. By eliminating Roe’s protections, the Supreme Court rolled back generations of reproductive rights and jeopardized the reproductive health of generations to come. Confusion About the Legality of Birth Control

There is considerable confusion about the legality of birth control in Missouri and many are worried about future access, according to a new survey of state residents ([link removed]) .

One in four (25%) Missourians do not believe or do not know that birth control pills — the most used form of contraception in the US — are legal in the state.

More than half (53%) do not believe or do not know that emergency contraception is legal.

In addition, fully half of survey respondents (50%) — including 44% of Republicans, 48% of Independents, and 66% of Democrats — are concerned that elected officials in Missouri will enact laws that restrict people from getting the birth control method they want.

The survey of 1,000 Missouri residents was conducted as part of the Missouri-based The Right Time ([link removed]) initiative. Through this effort, health centers across the state are improving access to contraception by providing free or low-cost birth control.

Dr. Raegan Speaks at NFPRHA 2023

In June, Dr. Raegan presented at The National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association’s 2023 National Conference ([link removed]) . Appropriations Committees Begin to Consider Spending Bills

In June, Congress finalized a deal to raise the debt limit and shortly thereafter the House and Senate Appropriations Committees returned to marking up (considering) spending bills. Although neither the House nor Senate Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS)—which has jurisdiction over the Title X Family Planning and the Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) programs—has announced a markup, now is the time to contact Congress. Your voice is needed to urge Congress to increase funding for these programs, which give young people the tools they need to live healthy lives and achieve their goals. Congressional Champions Introduce Bills to Protect and Expand Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health

In the lead up to the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs, Congressional champions have introduced a slate of bills to try to ameliorate the chaos created by the overturning of Roe. This includes the following bills, in addition to those that were already introduced earlier in the year ([link removed]) .
* Expanding Access to Family Planning Act ([link removed])
* Right to Contraception Act ([link removed])
* Freedom to Travel for Health Care Act ([link removed])
* Protect Sexual and Reproductive Health Care ([link removed])
* Reproductive Health Care Training Act ([link removed])
* Resolution Opposing the Criminalization of Essential Health Care ([link removed])

Also, 211 members of Congress signed a discharge petition ([link removed]) in an effort to force a vote on the Women's Health Protection Act ([link removed]) .

The segment aired on Morning Joe and throughout the day on MSNBC.
