New Central Library Plans Revealed

Exciting internal images of the proposed new Central Library at Broadmarsh have been revealed by Nottingham City Council, with the public being offered the chance to offer their views.

The plans and video fly-through for the library reveal the layout and design of the new library, showinga bright and welcoming space with new areas to network and relax, along with reading, learning and fun spaces for children.

Chess Club will run weekly at Sherwood library [ [link removed] ]on Wednesdays 3.30pm - 5.30pm.

Suitable for all ages, just turn up!

EmPOhWER is a peer support group for people affected by mental health which provides information, advice and support.

EmPOhWER groups are confidential, free and non-judgemental.

Each group will involve tea and biscuits, open discussion and signposting.

Life on Earth - Light Night

Light Night - Nottinghams famous night of eclectic and electric light installations - is back!For the first time ever, Light Night will take place over two evenings on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 February.

Visitors can expect parades, breath-taking performances, brilliant light sculptures and much more on both nights. Highlights include a gigantic projected installation on Nottinghams iconic Council House.

As with each Light Night, the event will have an overarching theme, with this years theme being *Life on Earth.*

*As ever we are excitedto be part of the fun with two events:*

*World-renowned light artist Andy McKeown* will be lighting up the ground floor of Central Librar [ [link removed] ]y with a new light art installation *My Favourite Book*onFriday 7February 4pm to 9pm. Featuring the titles of favourite books and authors selected by the people of Nottingham you canbrowse the book shelves as youve never seen them before and get some inspiration for new reads at the same time.

*On Friday: find out 'How the Borks Became' - An Adventure in Evolution.*Join author Jonathan Emmett for an entertaining blend of science and storytelling in this family session.Friday 7 February, 5pm to 6pm. *On Saturday: pop into Central Library for Light Catchers: *a fun up-cycling activity for families. We will be making individual light catchers, exploring themes of the city landscape using redundant items from the library and daylight as our light source. Taking Science out of the Lab

*The Festival of Science and Curiosity *returns -taking science out of the lab and into our communities for a whole week from*15 to 22 February.*

*Family fun includes:*Science demos, LEGO fun, Makey Makey workshops, author talks and more.

The Festival isn't just for young ones as we have a number of library events for adults:

*Sexual reproduction in fungi for strain improvement.***Join University of Nottingham researcher Paul Brett for a fascinating talk on all things fungi!

*The Science of Spaceflight.*Join Dr Amelia Fraser-McKelvie as she summarises some of the most interesting science experiments that have taken place in space.

*Flood Resilience and blue-green infrastructure.*This talk will explore how Blue-Green infrastructure (e.g. rain gardens, wetlands etc) can help manage flood risk while delivering a range of benefits to the environment and society.
