President Donald Trump sparked controversy this week by staging a July Fourth celebration on the National Mall that critics argued turned the holiday event into a political rally. Trump defended the "Salute to America" event ahead of time, and delivered a nonpolitical speech asking the country to move forward with the "same unity of purpose."
The holiday celebration came amid the ongoing debate over the Trump administration's effort to add a citizenship question to the U.S. Census. Trump said Friday he was weighing an executive order to add the question after the administration suffered a setback on the issue in a Supreme Court ruling.
