Congress might be in recess, but that doesn’t mean our work stops. Just
yesterday, I was at the border with my colleagues to see the conditions
for migrants firsthand. The administration is forcibly returning migrants
to Mexico even when they are petitioning for asylum.

Seeking asylum is a human right — but the Trump administration has done
everything in their power to undermine that, leaving too many people
fleeing violence and conflict out in the cold. We are not even providing
aid to Juárez to help shelter these migrants.

It is unacceptable for Trump to weaponize xenophobia to suit his partisan
agenda.

For millions, America is still a city upon a hill — the representation of
hopes and dreams, of safety and opportunity. Those foundational values are
under threat right now, and we must never back down from defending them.
