Affirmatively Unfair Action 👋

Put the best players in, coach!

I’m happy to see the Supreme Court’s ruling
<[link removed]>
to put an end to the practice of affirmative action.

The use of race as a factor in college admissions
<[link removed]>
undermines the bedrock on which higher education prides itself on—hard work
and determination. As Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in hismajority opinion,
<[link removed]>
"Many universities have for too long done just the opposite. And in doing so,
they have concluded, wrongly, that the touchstone of an individual’s identity
is not challenges bested, skills built, or lessons learned but the color of
their skin.”

Our nation’s educational institutions claimed affirmative action “promoted
diversity,” but all it really wound up doing was drive a wedge between students
on campuses across America. Instead of admissions being based on merit, the
higher education overlords created a system where students feltmismatched and
second fiddle.
<[link removed]>

At the end of the day, affirmative action IS racial discrimination. Let's
embrace a future where admissions are built upon equal opportunities, focusing
on academic performance, extracurricular talents, and the qualities that define
outstanding leaders, without any regard for the color of their skin. Together,
we can build a level playing field that inspires folks and fosters true
inclusivity.

Another young Tennessean is making us proud!

Knoxville teen Dominick Pelaia recently won Apple’s Swift Student Challenge
<[link removed]>, a program that
allows children with coding skills to unveil a self-made app.

With just three weeks for development, winners like Dominick are chosen for
demonstrating creativity and technical accomplishment.

Dominick began coding five years ago at Apple’s Summer Camp in West Town Mall.
It wasn’t long before he was programming to develop his own games and apps. His
winning app, EggDrop, is an arcade-style game. But that’s not all; he has
another game in the iOS App Store called Chicking Rumble.

Although he’s already putting his skills to work in the real world, Dominick
will soon begin high school at L&N Stem Academy.
