The justices who attacked affirmative action today are the same people who will claim that education is the “great equalizer.” But I learned firsthand what these anti-democracy voices really think of equal opportunity.

When I exercised my “equal” right to protest and engage in our democracy, I was expelled from the Tennessee House for “disorderly behavior.”

But the Republicans’ plan fell flat – and now, our movement for a better, more equitable future for our generation is getting national attention, stronger than ever.

Maxwell and I are refusing to back down. As the youngest members of Congress and the Tennessee House respectively, we will not rest until our generation passes the legislation our generation needs to experience true equity and access across this nation. But this is a tough fight, and Republicans are working around the clock to sabotage our efforts.
