John— On Tuesday, we wrapped up our first annual [ [link removed] ]Community Violence Intervention Conference. Over two days, we hosted more than 600 leading experts, advocates, and practitioners in Los Angeles, and we’re already counting down to next year’s conference. Community violence is one of the most prevalent drivers of gun violence in America, and intervention strategies are crucial to combating this crisis, which disproportionately affects communities of color. Our goal for the conference was to create a space devoted to advancing the violence intervention field—and through a range of activities, including trainings, workshops, and panel discussions, we did just that.

Panelists speak at the 2023 Community Violence Intervention Conference.

We were honored to feature a [ [link removed] ]wide array of compelling speakers,
including Connie Rice, co-founder of the Urban Peace Institute; Amy
Solomon, assistant attorney general of the Office of Justice Programs; and
our namesake, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. The collective
knowledge and experience all of our speakers and attendees brought helped
make this event such a triumph.

The conference was the first major undertaking of our organization’s
newest arm, [ [link removed] ]Giffords Center for Violence Intervention. We launched the
center last fall in order to champion the lifesaving work of community
violence intervention workers nationwide. Our team researches and promotes
strategies, connects stakeholders, and helps secure funding for
on-the-ground intervention programs.

Thank you for supporting Giffords Law Center, Giffords Center for Violence
Intervention, and all the work we do together to save lives from gun
violence. We wouldn’t be here without you.

In service,
Paul
