Dear Friend of MCV,
The fight to secure responsibly-developed offshore wind in Maine is making national news.
MCV's Senior Director of Policy & Partnerships, Kathleen Meil, told the Washington Post yesterday, "When it comes to meeting the climate targets, offshore wind is the biggest lever we can pull.” [1]
If you're asking, "What's going on?"— here's the backstory: This week, Governor Mills vetoed a critical bill that would have paved the way for responsible offshore wind energy in Maine — because she disagreed with an amendment that set strong labor standards for offshore wind port facilities.
While this was a setback (for now), the fight to establish offshore wind in Maine is far from over. The legislature has extended its session, and we are working with an unprecedented coalition of environmental advocates and labor allies to push these bills over the finish line before the Legislature adjourns.
But we can't do it alone. Our critical work in Augusta advocating for clean, renewable energy depends on supporters like you — and your support today could help get these critical policies signed into law by the Governor. Can we count on your support to help us finish the job? [[link removed]]

Maine needs to meet Governor Mills’ goal of 100% clean energy by 2040 and transition away from the volatile and dirty fossil fuel economy. Offshore wind has the potential to meet more than half of Maine’s electricity demand because of the power and consistency of the wind resources in the Gulf of Maine. [2]
We also need offshore wind that’s developed responsibly, with high standards for labor, the environment, and equity, to ensure that our transition to clean energy contributes to a better Maine for all.
We are at the State House working around the clock to make sure responsibly developed offshore wind becomes a reality for Maine. If you can, please help us push this work forward with a gift to MCV today. [[link removed]]

With your help, we will keep working to ensure the legislation coming out of these final days will be carefully crafted to meet Maine’s offshore wind needs in a responsible and equitable way.
Stay tuned - and thank you for standing with us!
