Dear John,
The fight to secure responsibly-developed offshore wind in Maine is making national news.
MCV's Senior Director of Policy & Partnerships, Kathleen Meil, told the Washington Post yesterday, "When it comes to meeting the climate targets, offshore wind is the biggest lever we can pull.”1
If you're asking, "What's going on?"— here's the backstory: This week, Governor Mills vetoed a critical bill that would have paved the way for responsible offshore wind energy in Maine — because she disagreed with an amendment that set strong labor standards for offshore wind port facilities.
While this was a setback (for now), the fight to establish offshore wind in Maine is far from over. The legislature has extended its session, and we are working with an unprecedented coalition of environmental advocates and labor allies to push these bills over the finish line before the Legislature adjourns.
But we can't do it alone. Our critical work in Augusta advocating for clean, renewable energy depends on supporters like you — and your support today could help get these critical policies signed into law by the Governor. Can we count on your support to help us finish the job?
