This Sunday marks the 10-year anniversary of Shelby County v. Holder, the landmark case that gutted the preclearance requirements of the Voting Rights Act. Read how the disastrous decision has paved the way for a decade of attacks on voting rights in North Carolina.

Here are some recent updates.

Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo (R) signed two pro-voting bills into law. The laws improve ballot access for eligible incarcerated voters and standardize the design of mail-in ballot return envelopes.

Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer sued failed Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake for defamation. Lake has continuously made false statements about her election loss in Arizona, statements that have, according to Richer, altered his life for the worse. [link removed]

Here’s what to expect coming up.

On Monday at 9:30 a.m. EDT, the U.S. Supreme Court will issue an order list announcing a portion of the cases it will hear next term.

We’re watching to see if the Court takes a felony disenfranchisement case from Mississippi or a redistricting case from Ohio.

We’re also waiting for the Court to unpause a Louisiana redistricting case following its decision in Allen v. Milligan.

Also on Monday, there will be a hearing in an Oregon case that argues that voting tabulation systems are “inherently unsecure and vulnerable to manipulation and intrusion,” therefore violating the 14th Amendment. The plaintiffs cited debunked conspiracy theories to support their claims; the defendants are asking the court to dismiss the case.

The U.S. Supreme Court did not release a decision in Moore v. Harper today. The next opinion day is Tuesday, June 27, at 10 a.m. EDT.
