No single person can solve the plastic problem on their own. But that doesn't mean it's hopeless -- it just means that plastic producers and retailers need to be a part of the solution, too.
For decades, major plastics producers have successfully maintained a status quo that lets them off the hook for dealing with the waste their products inevitably become. We're working to win producer responsibility legislation nationwide, which will make manufacturers financially responsible for the waste they create and for properly discarding their products at the end of their life cycles.
There's a lot of plastic on store shelves, too, which makes it hard for anyone who wants to shop sustainably. Corporations like Walmart, Costco, and Amazon can make single-use plastic all but unavoidable. That's why we're also campaigning to get these and other big industry players to start doing their part to combat plastic waste.
