July is Water Conservation

Upgrade your sprinkler heads!

July is dedicated to increasing awareness about efficient water usage in landscaping, helping customers beat the scorching heat while ensuring our water reserves remain abundant. The City's Water Conservation Team is dedicated to promoting efficient water usage in landscaping by encouraging the adoption of new High Efficiency (HE) rotary sprinklers.

High-pressure misting sprinklers are not always the best option for your lawn. These common sprayers generate tiny droplets that can quickly evaporate and drift away, causing significant water loss and mist drift.

Many Fort Worth residents may not be aware that HE sprinkler heads are readily available at most home improvement stores, and offer a more environmentally-friendly solution. These innovative sprinklers deliver water directly to plant roots where it is needed most, significantly reducing runoff and evaporation. This means you can enjoy a vibrant outdoor space without wasting precious resources or money. Upgrade your irrigation system heads today!

Celebrating special event litter cleanups

Looking over the first six months of 2023, volunteers and city employees have worked together to remove an impressive total of *86,545 pounds of litter and debris* from the City during Code Compliance's monthly Special Event Litter Cleanups! To put it in perspective, that is equivalent to the weight of over 4,460 watermelons. Can you imagine how much space that would take up? That is a significant accomplishment, with such a positive impact on the environment and the community!

For those who are curious about what is involved in a typical cleanup, it is more than just picking up trash. Whether driving to work, cycling on one of our trails, walking with friends, or dropping children at school, we would all like to see clean spaces. We are proud of the strong sense of community we have in Fort Worth, and of our residents and employees who come together to create a collective effort in cleaning up the city.

Cleanup participants are provided with litter grabbers and other essential equipment, as well as water and snacks. They meet city staff at a designated location, are given instructions, and go out in teams to remove litter from the area. It is a fun activity, and children are welcome.

If you missed the opportunity to participate in previous cleanups, it is never too late to join. Sign up for the next litter cleanup in the Worth Heights neighborhood [ [link removed] ] on *Saturday morning, July 8*. Thank you for making a difference in keeping Fort Worth clean and safe!

Conveniently fight food waste with two new sites!
Two new collections sites #18 and #19

Keep Fort Worth Beautiful (KFWB) is thrilled to announce that *two new collection sites* have been added to expand the City's Residential Food Waste Composting Program, [ [link removed] ] providing even greater accessibility for those who want to make a difference:

*Site #18 - Handley Meadowbrook Community Center - 6201 Beaty St., 76112*

*Site #19 - Ridglea Christian Church - 6720 W. Elizabeth Ln., 76116*

You do not even need to do the composting yourself or own a home or a backyard. Just separate your food waste from the garbage in the kitchen pail provided in your composting kit, and drop it off at one of the program's 19 collection sites conveniently located throughout the city. All composting material collected will then be converted into high-quality compost, contributing to a more sustainable Fort Worth - from better soil to cleaner air! Check out all the things that are accepted in this program:

Food scraps & leftovers Vegetable/fruit peels & pits Coffee filters & grounds Cooked meats & bones Seafood & shellfish Tea bags Eggs & dairy Nuts & shells Moldy baked goods

Help us expand! If you are an existing subscriber, invite 3 friends or neighbors to sign up, and everyone gets a free yard sign. It's as easy as 1-2-3!
