Celebrating special event litter cleanups
Looking over the first six months of 2023, volunteers and city employees have worked together to remove an impressive total of 86,545 pounds of litter and debris from the City during Code Compliance's monthly Special Event Litter Cleanups! To put it in perspective, that is equivalent to the weight of over 4,460 watermelons. Can you imagine how much space that would take up? That is a significant accomplishment, with such a positive impact on the environment and the community!
For those who are curious about what is involved in a typical cleanup, it is more than just picking up trash. Whether driving to work, cycling on one of our trails, walking with friends, or dropping children at school, we would all like to see clean spaces. We are proud of the strong sense of community we have in Fort Worth, and of our residents and employees who come together to create a collective effort in cleaning up the city.
Cleanup participants are provided with litter grabbers and other essential equipment, as well as water and snacks. They meet city staff at a designated location, are given instructions, and go out in teams to remove litter from the area. It is a fun activity, and children are welcome.
If you missed the opportunity to participate in previous cleanups, it is never too late to join. Sign up for the next litter cleanup in the Worth Heights neighborhood on Saturday morning, July 8. Thank you for making a difference in keeping Fort Worth clean and safe!
Conveniently fight food waste with two new sites!
Keep Fort Worth Beautiful (KFWB) is thrilled to announce that two new collection sites have been added to expand the City's Residential Food Waste Composting Program, providing even greater accessibility for those who want to make a difference:
Site #18 - Handley Meadowbrook Community Center - 6201 Beaty St., 76112
Site #19 - Ridglea Christian Church - 6720 W. Elizabeth Ln., 76116
You do not even need to do the composting yourself or own a home or a backyard. Just separate your food waste from the garbage in the kitchen pail provided in your composting kit, and drop it off at one of the program's 19 collection sites conveniently located throughout the city. All composting material collected will then be converted into high-quality compost, contributing to a more sustainable Fort Worth - from better soil to cleaner air! Check out all the things that are accepted in this program:
