President's Message It’s all hands on deck to keep people covered as states restart routine Medicaid renewals. It is critical that all Americans have the peace of mind that comes with having adequate health coverage. As pandemic-era protections for Medicaid coverage end and states across the country resume their regular processes for renewing, we all must work together to ensure that families are able to maintain coverage. Read the latest update on Medicaid Unwinding and what states and stakeholders can do to help keep people covered. The healthcare community, including school nurses, should spread the word to families about renewing coverage. NASN holds the position that promoting continuous and initial Medicaid and State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage provides health benefits and supports health equity for eligible children and adolescents. CMS has created materials and resources to help people with Medicaid or CHIP take steps to renew their health coverage or find other coverage options. A study done in March 2022 in collaboration between the CDC, the NASN, and the National Association of State School Nurse Consultants revealed an alarming prevalence of mental health issues that warrants further understanding about what we as school nurses can do to facilitate resiliency in each other.
