President's Message It’s all hands on deck to keep people covered as states restart routine Medicaid renewals. It is critical that all Americans have the peace of mind that comes with having adequate health coverage. As pandemic-era protections for Medicaid coverage end and states across the country resume their regular processes for renewing, we all must work together to ensure that families are able to maintain coverage. Read the latest update on Medicaid Unwinding and what states and stakeholders can do to help keep people covered. The healthcare community, including school nurses, should spread the word to families about renewing coverage. NASN holds the position that promoting continuous and initial Medicaid and State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage provides health benefits and supports health equity for eligible children and adolescents. CMS has created materials and resources to help people with Medicaid or CHIP take steps to renew their health coverage or find other coverage options. A study done in March 2022 in collaboration between the CDC, the NASN, and the National Association of State School Nurse Consultants revealed an alarming prevalence of mental health issues that warrants further understanding about what we as school nurses can do to facilitate resiliency in each other. The program addresses the identification of stigma and strategies to reduce it; and SUDEP risks, causes, and methods to inform others. Toolkit Addresses School Employee Wellness The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) released SOPHE School Employee Wellness, a toolkit to support the implementation of evidence-based school employee wellness initiatives. School employee wellness is an essential component of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model and is a critical contributor to students’ health and academic success. NCSN School Nurse Job Analysis Survey - Have Your Voice Heard The NCSN school nurse job analysis survey is now available. The results of this survey will be used to help develop the specifications for the National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN) National Certified School Nurse (NCSN) Examination. Please complete the survey by July 9, 2023. World Sickle Cell Day 2023 June 19 is World Sickle Cell Awareness Day.
