The U.S. Senate voted 50-49 to confirm civil and voting rights attorney Dale Ho to a lifetime appointment to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Yesterday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signed a bill that will once again make illegal voting a felony. Civil and voting rights advocates warn that the bill would do nothing to deter illegal voting and cause unnecessary incarcerations.

Department of Justice (DOJ) officials will meet with Democratic leaders in Tarrant County, Texas to discuss a letter they wrote asking the DOJ to investigate reports of voter intimidation and harassment in the area.

On Friday, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) signed a law to bring Illinois closer to ending the state’s prison gerrymandering, the redistricting practice of counting individuals where they are incarcerated, rather than where they call home.

In a bait-and-switch, Louisiana Republicans asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear a challenge to their congressional map in full. Despite previously arguing that their case presents the same question regarding Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act as Allen v. Milligan, Louisiana Republicans are now arguing that the “facts alone also suitably distinguish the Court’s [Allen] decision” from the Louisiana case. [link removed]

Here’s what to expect coming up.
Tomorrow, at 10 a.m EST, the U.S. Supreme Court will issue opinions in previously argued cases. We could get a decision in Moore v. Harper, the landmark case about the fringe independent state legislature theory.
