On Friday, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) signed a law to bring Illinois closer to ending the state’s prison gerrymandering, the redistricting practice of counting individuals where they are incarcerated, rather than where they call home.

In a bait-and-switch, Louisiana Republicans asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear a challenge to their congressional map in full. Despite previously arguing that their case presents the same question regarding Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act as Allen v. Milligan, Louisiana Republicans are now arguing that the “facts alone also suitably distinguish the Court’s [Allen] decision” from the Louisiana case.

Tomorrow, at 10 a.m EDT, the U.S. Supreme Court will issue opinions in previously argued cases. We could get a decision in Moore v. Harper, the landmark case about the fringe independent state legislature theory.
