Friend,

Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) and a growing number of congressional Democrats are calling for DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to resign for, in Harris’s words, “a lack of transparency and for implementing a policy of separating thousands of children from parents along our southern border.”

We agree.

If you do too, please add your name to our petition demanding the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen>>

Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen flat out denies that family separation is happening and said "we do not have a policy of separating families at the border" … even after her own department released the report admitting that 2,000 children had recently been separated from their parents. [1][2]

A protégé of Trump’s rabidly anti-immigrant chief of staff (and former DHS head) John Kelly, Nielsen made her way quickly up the ranks in the Trump administration, despite a lack of experience, via her effusive loyalty to Donald Trump. [3]

She was accused of lying under oath in congressional testimony, including about Trump’s infamous use of the phrase “shithole countries” -- an incident she personally witnessed. [4]

More than anything, Nielsen’s role in the separation of thousands of migrant children -- including babies and toddlers -- from their parents and lying about it make her unfit for office.

Sen. Harris stated, “our government should be in the business of keeping families together, not tearing them apart.”

That’s how we feel too. Kirstjen Nielsen’s actions are an affront to American values.

Secretary Nielsen:

I call for your immediate resignation. Your repeated dishonesty in the position of Homeland Security Secretary is unacceptable. Your role in the separation of thousands of migrant children -- many of them as young as toddlers -- from their parents is the final straw. The American people deserve transparency and government officials who do not carry out the cruel and inhumane treatment of desperate, vulnerable families.
