Household Chemical Collection Event

North Kitsap

In partnership with the City of Poulsbo, Kitsap County Public Works is hosting a Household Chemical Collection Event for North Kitsap residents on Saturday, June 24th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This annual event is held in North Kitsap to offer a more convenient disposal option for our residents in the North.?A permanent North Kitsap facility is currently in the design phase to bring this service year-round [ [link removed] ].?

Options for Central and South Kitsap

The Household Hazardous Waste facility in Bremerton is also open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for disposal close to Central Kitsap and South Kitsap residents. This facility is open to all Kitsap County residents.

We will accept your unwanted household cleaning supplies, automotive fluids, garden and spa chemicals, and more at this event for easy, safe disposal. "Restrictions apply".

Don?t wait to recycle your paint!

Paint is limited to 10 gallons for this event. However, PaintCare of WA has hundreds of locations available to easily recycle your paint, stains and sealants. They'll even pick up large loads of paint at your site. There's no need to wait to recycle your paint.?Find a location near you today!? Traveling with hazardous materials

Prepare hazardous materials by:


* Labeling the contents of containers when original label is worn or unreadable
* Sealing tightly in container with lid and never mixing chemicals
* Packing items in a plastic tote or box lined with heavy plastic
* Securing items in rear cargo area and prevent shifting during transport

Loads containing hazardous material not accepted at this event may be directed to the Hazardous Waste Facility in Bremerton [ [link removed] ] or another appropriate agency for disposal. Large loads require an appointment with the Bremerton facility.

Tire and Metal Collection Event

Don't miss the June 10th collection event at the Fairgrounds! From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., households can dispose of up to 15 tires and many scrap metal items at no cost.

The event entrance has moved to the West side of the Thunderbird Arena. Enter from Fairgrounds Road and follow the gravel drive running parallel to Tibardis Road. Watch for traffic signs.

Securing Your Load Means Safer Roads

Washington State increases efforts this June to reduce litter and traffic fatalities with patrols and outreach

According to the 2022?statewide litter study,? [ [link removed] ]40% of roadside litter comes from unsecured items falling or blowing from trucks and cars.

Litter not only affects the beauty of our state, but also causes dangerous conditions on the road from unsecured loads. In 2022, at least five (5) deaths, 300 crashes and 30 injuries were caused by falling debris from unsecured loads.

Local litter prevention efforts in Kitsap County

Recently, Kitsap County agencies joined forces to launch the Secure Your Load for Safer Roads campaign. This initiative?aims to reduce crashes, fatalities and litter by promoting the importance of strapping down and securing all items in every truck, trailer and carload.

The campaign includes cargo strap giveaway events, law enforcement emphasis patrols and strict enforcement of a $10 fee for customers arriving at county solid waste facilities with an unsecured or uncovered load.

Outdoor Firepits, BBQ Coals and Fireworks Pose Safety Risk at Disposal
Ash Coals Fireworks

Remains from used fireworks, charcoal grills and outdoor firepits can ignite garbage if not properly handled during disposal.?

Proper disposal of USED fireworks, and charcoal and wood-fired remnants:


* Do not place any fireworks or any part of fireworks in your recycling cart. All used fireworks should be treated as garbage and disposed of as follows:
* Put used fireworks in a bucket of water overnight. Remove them from the water and put them in a garbage bag and into your garbage can.
* Dump the water onto grass, dirt or other landscape where it won?t flow into a storm drain or waterway. Don't pour onto pavement or into the street.

* Be sure to thoroughly soak all residual ash and coals from grills and firepits before disposing as garbage.

UNUSED fireworks are explosives and do not belong in your garbage or recycling. They can cause serious harm to workers and the environment.


* Do not take them to the transfer station or garbage drop-offs; workers cannot accept explosives. Contact the Sheriff's office with questions about explosives. [ [link removed] ]

WM Offers New Service Option, Saves Time and Money

Long driveway getting to you? Traveling more this season? No more hauling to the road every week; you can cut it down to twice a month. Residents in unincorporated Kitsap County have a new curbside pickup option for garbage services. WM is now offering a 64-gallon garbage cart with every other week pick-up. The cost is less than a weekly 35-gallon pickup [ [link removed] ], and it saves energy.?

In fact, it's a great time for households to look at all their curbside collection needs! With gardens in full bloom, it may be time to add a yard and food waste cart.? Do you need a larger recycling bin? Start now with smart collection options. You can reduce waste by recycling or help with climate change by sending your organic waste to be composted. Holiday Hours - Juneteenth and Independence Day

In celebration of freedom, Kitsap County recycling and garbage facilities in Olalla, Silverdale and Hansville are closed on June 19th in honor of Juneteenth, and July 4th for Independence Day. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is also closed.?
