Remains from used fireworks, charcoal grills and outdoor firepits can ignite garbage if not properly handled during disposal.?
Proper disposal of USED fireworks, and charcoal and wood-fired remnants:
- Do not place any fireworks or any part of fireworks in your recycling cart. All used fireworks should be treated as garbage and disposed of as follows:
- Put used fireworks in a bucket of water overnight. Remove them from the water and put them in a garbage bag and into your garbage can.
- Dump the water onto grass, dirt or other landscape where it won?t flow into a storm drain or waterway. Don't pour onto pavement or into the street.
- Be sure to thoroughly soak all residual ash and coals from grills and firepits before disposing as garbage.
UNUSED fireworks are explosives and do not belong in your garbage or recycling. They can cause serious harm to workers and the environment.
Information on fireworks safety can be found at the County Fire Marshall's office.?
