Dear John,
Wednesday, May 24th, marks the one year anniversary of the devastating shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas – where 19 students and 2 teachers lost their lives in the deadliest school shooting since Sandy Hook.
Researchers at the National Institutes of Health are telling us that individuals living in states with looser firearm laws suffer more mass shootings, more gun-related suicides and more homicides. I am committed to making Virginia safer, especially for our youngest Virginians.
Parents should not have to worry about the safety of their children when they send them to school. Children should not have to suffer anxiety and trauma in a place where they should feel safe.
With your help, I will return to Richmond more energized than ever to address the safety of our communities. [[link removed]] I will sponsor legislation that:
Requires the safe storage of firearms. No child should have access to a firearm.
Outlaws semiautomatic assault-style rifles and other high-capacity firearms . There is no need for these weapons of mass destruction. I wrote an opinion piece [[link removed]] that was published in the Richmond Times Dispatch on this topic.
Increases the age for purchase of a firearm to 21 . Young people disproportionately commit gun homicides. 18-20 year olds comprise just 4 percent of the U.S. population, but account for 17% of known homicide offenders.
Closes the Boyfriend Loophole . I passed legislation to remove firearms from those convicted of assaulting a family or household member but many are still in danger because of violent dating partners.
Donations from this request will be shared with other “gun-sense” Senate candidates. [[link removed]] Passing legislation is a team sport and we need like-minded lawmakers who will vote to give Governor Youngkin the opportunity to do the right thing.
It is our obligation to let the Governor know that Virginians across the political spectrum want the freedom to feel and be safe when they go about their daily business.
Thanks for your attention to this important issue and thanks for getting involved in the political process.
I am honored to have earned the Moms Demand Action Gun-Sense Candidate Distinction and I hope I can count on your vote in the upcoming June 20th primary.

It is a privilege to represent you in Richmond and I look forward to connect in person one day soon.
Sincerely,
