First, thank you for responding so generously to my last request for help in funding a Get-Out-the-Vote effort. It is inspiring to know that you are willing to play such an important role in our democratic process. I will work diligently to “turn out the vote” for our upcoming local elections.
Once primaries conclude on June 20th, I will turn my full attention to ensuring that the Virginia Senate grows its Democratic majority. You must join me in this fight. Your time, talent and treasure are needed to protect the rights and dignity of women—rights that had been protected for the past 50 years.
Governor Youngkin has already raised $3M to support candidates that share his desire to create a Texas or Florida like abortion ban in Virginia. He wants Virginia to look like the other Republican led states. That means abortions would be banned at six weeks, before a woman knows she is pregnant.
South Carolina has recently enacted a second 6-week abortion ban since the first ban is permanently enjoined by the State Supreme Court as a violation of South Carolina’s Constitutional right to privacy. The recently enacted 6-week ban is under a preliminary injunction. Texas and other states are criminalizing women and providers when they violate bans.
Youngkin submitted a proposal to ban abortions after 15 weeks and to criminalize providers if they violated a 15-week abortion ban. That proposal and many other draconian proposals put forth by Republican lawmakers in the 2023 General Assembly were defeated by Democratic lawmakers. We call ourselves the blue wall.
As I have demonstrated throughout my career, I take every challenge seriously. And I know it is time to build the coffers of candidates who support reproductive rights. You can make a donation now to help me position our candidates for a decisive win in November.
