Texas Republicans Want To Take Houston’s Power Away [link removed]

Here are some updates you may have missed.

Today, North Carolina Republicans introduced an election bill reportedly influenced by an organization led by Cleta Mitchell, a former Trump attorney. The bill shortens the deadline to return mail-in ballots, bans private funding for election administration and more. [link removed]

U.S. Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah) announced his resignation from Congress, citing his wife's illness. The resignation triggers a special election to fill his seat. Utah's congressional map faces a lawsuit that alleges the districts are gerrymandered to benefit Republicans. Lawmakers split Salt Lake City, Utah's capital and most populous city, into four congressional districts. [link removed] [link removed]

A man who challenged the eligibility of almost 10,000 voters in Fulton County, Georgia is now the Republican nominee for a seat on the county election board. [link removed]

Here’s some courtroom news from today and yesterday.

The League of Women Voters of Mississippi, Disability Rights Mississippi and individual voters sued over a new Mississippi law that limits who can help voters with disabilities return their mail-in ballots. The groups argue that the law violates Section 208 of the Voting Rights Act. [link removed]

Kari Lake (R) appealed her loss in her second trial contesting the results of the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial race. Last week, a judge rejected Lake's election contest for lack of evidence — again. [link removed]

For a third time, the U.S. Supreme Court is considering in conference whether to take up a case challenging Mississippi's Jim Crow-era felony disenfranchisement law. The Court may announce whether or not it will hear the case as soon as Monday, June 5. We will be keeping a close eye on this lawsuit and keep you updated on any new developments. [link removed]
