When I was sworn in as Treasurer of Delaware, I made a commitment to protect our state's finances and prioritize the well-being of our residents in every decision I make.

Today, as we face the possibility of a crisis if we don't raise the debt ceiling, I am dedicated to fulfilling this promise by taking proactive measures to prepare for potential delays or the absence of a decision.

Because the consequences of a default are so severe, we need adults in the room who won't blow up negotiations because of petty political games. That's how we've achieved progress in Delaware, and it's a shame we can't achieve that in DC.

It is time for them to set aside political differences and focus on finding a resolution. Playing politics will only hinder progress and deepen the uncertainty we face.
