We’re counting on your generous support Dear John, As a young man, Dr. E. Fuller Torrey was frustrated by the ineffective treatment available for his younger sister, Rhoda, when she developed schizophrenia after she turned 18. Even worse, doctors knew little about the cause of schizophrenia and blamed their mother for causing the disease. This experience not only gave him a personal understanding of the isolation, fear, and desperation that so many families face when a loved one is experiencing severe mental illness; it also led him to devote his life’s work to eliminating barriers to treatment for people with severe mental illness and their loved ones. In the 25 years since he founded Treatment Advocacy Center, Dr. Torrey has personally been there for thousands of families during some of their most difficult moments. This year, our goal is to raise $100,000 for the Torrey Action Fund — and we need your help to achieve that goal. DONATE TO THE TORREY ACTION FUND The Torrey Action Fund was established to honor Dr. Torrey and fund Treatment Advocacy Center’s advocacy work. Your generous donation allows us to: Increase our family support services, so that families can access the resources and networks they need, when they need it most. Push for policies in more states to ensure accessible quality treatment for people with SMI. Fund critical research that collects needed data and accurately assesses the current state of care for those living with SMI. Dr. Torrey — and his bold, brave work securing the best treatment for his sister and for everyone with SMI — is at the heart of all we do at Treatment Advocacy Center. Together, we can honor his life’s work and deep connection to our community by raising $100,000 for the Torrey Action Fund.
