Tobacco use in the Asian American community ([link removed])

Asian Americans have one of the lowest cigarette smoking rates compared with other racial and ethnic groups. However, tobacco use rates vary within Asian American subgroups. Distinct differences in smoking rates between subgroups might be attributable to variations in socioeconomic status, exposure to targeted advertising and attitudes toward tobacco use.

Detroit, Michigan - The city council passed a resolution urging state lawmakers to end the sale of flavored tobacco and allow municipalities to control local tobacco laws. The law currently restricts cities from imposing new requirements or forbidding sales and licenses for distribution purposes.

Illinois – The state legislature passed a bill that would add e-cigarettes to the Smoke Free Illinois Act of 2007 that prohibits smoking in public and within 15 feet of entrances. It now moves to Governor Pritzker’s desk for consideration.

Washington – Gov. Inslee signed into law a bill to repeal penalties for minors who use, purchase, or possess vapor or tobacco products, offer community-based interventions to help them quit tobacco use, and increase fines for retailers who sell tobacco products to minors.
