The 26 country reports ([link removed]) visualize a breadth of new data and expand on insights in the 2022 WJP Rule of Law Index ([link removed]) . The new findings reflect the voices of the people on topics including crime, security, fundamental freedoms, access to justice, and more.

While the rule of law landscape varies country to country, our surveys show that perceptions of authoritarian behavior are widespread.

Across Latin America and the Caribbean, people believe top government officials are attacking key checks on executive power, including the media, the judiciary, and electoral systems.

They also believe that officials who break the law can easily escape accountability.

In Central America ([link removed]) , our new reports also explore migration, as well as the rule of law challenges that drive many people to leave. We found that close to one-third of people in the “Northern Triangle” (El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras) wish to leave their country.
