Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, This past weekend, I hosted the participants of my 2023 Congressional Art Competition for a ceremony to announce the winners and honor each student who participated in the competition. Congratulations to our winners Madeline Soh, Ranier Diaz, and Rabiatou Ndiaye! For more on the ceremony and to see the winning artwork, you can check out this press release from my office. Pictured above: Rep. McBath with the winners of her 2023 Congressional Art Competition On Monday, I hosted a briefing with Community Justice Action Fund to share information with local leaders in our district about the Department of Justice's Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative, which will make $100 million available to gun violence prevention efforts this year alone. I was proud to be a champion for this initiative when we passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and I truly believe this funding opportunity will aid us in our work to save lives and keep families whole. The submission and application deadline is coming up soon--for more information, please read more by clicking here. Pictured above: Rep. McBath hosts briefing with Community Justice This week, I joined a bipartisan group of colleagues to introduce a bill to encourage competition, reduce costs, and improve the quality of infant formula options available to families through WIC programs. The WIC Healthy Beginnings Act will help set up mothers and their families for future success. To learn more about the bill, you can click here. On Tuesday, I joined my House colleague Rep. Robin Kelly (D-IL-02) and Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) in leading a letter with over 90 of our Congressional colleagues to urge the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to implement federal rules to help close the gun seller background check loophole. You can read the full letter here. Wednesday night, I took to the floor of the House to share my thoughts on the continued tragedies this nation is witnessing due to gun violence. We are not powerless to act. My colleagues must summon the courage to join me and pass common sense gun violence prevention legislation--solutions that the majority of the American people already support. You can view my remarks by clicking here or on the image below. Pictured above: Rep. McBath speaks on recent gun violence across America Thank you for taking the time to read this update.
