Addressing the Border Chaos   Irving, TX – On Monday, I met with RDO Equipment. We had a great discussion about regulatory challenges facing the agricultural equipment industry. I also met with Good Days, a North Texas non-profit that helps people who suffer from chronic illness. Thanks for all that you do to uplift others in our community. On Tuesday, I participated in a Ways and Means Committee field hearing in Staten Island, NY. I was able to ask our witnesses about countering China through trade. I will continue to work to improve our supply chain and advance a trade agenda that protects American workers. After two and a half year of neglect by Democrats, House Republicans have taken an important step to secure our borders. I was pleased to support H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, to restart border wall construction, address the fentanyl crisis, and give needed resources to our border patrol agents. While in Washington this week, I had the opportunity to meet with Novocure to learn about new developments in cancer treatment. Applications are now open for the 2023 – 2024 Congressional Youth Advisory Council. This is a leadership opportunity for high school students to participate in a unique experience learning about the federal government and public policy through meetings and civic participation. Completed applications are due in my District Office by 5:00 pm on Friday, September 22, 2023. Please click here to learn more about this student program and to download the application. I also enjoyed meeting with Texans from the Safari Club this week to hear about conservation efforts. As a Member of Congress, I have the honor of nominating exceptional #TX24 individuals to our nation’s service academies. Applications for a nomination are available and due in my District Office by 5:00 pm on Friday, October 6, 2023. For more information, please click here. According to testimony provided by the Department of Labor Inspector General, improper payments in pandemic unemployment programs have left taxpayers on the hook for at least $191 billion. Outside experts put the number much higher at $400 billion. This week the House passed H.R. 1163, Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act. This important piece of legislation I cosponsored provides incentives to states to recover fraudulent unemployment payments, improve program integrity and prevent future fraud. Texas-24 Work of the Week Yesterday, the House passed legislation with my support to secure our border. The Republican border plan is a good first step to force the DHS to enforce our laws, empower ICE to deport people back to their home countries, and help fund local law enforcement to better deal with criminal aliens and cartel gangs around the country. Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is David Boot, who has served Hurst for decades. David has held various positions and will be retiring this month. It is an honor to join those celebrating David's dedication to the people of Hurst! Do you know someone who goes above and beyond for our community? Nominate a Texas-24 Hometown Hero here. Rep.
