Hi John!
I wanted to make sure you saw some great pro-democracy news. The North Carolina State Board of Elections recently voted (unanimously) to remove two election-denying Republicans from the Surry County Board of Elections, effective immediately.
The two had refused to certify the '22 elections because they disagreed with some decisions the courts and State Board of Elections made. Letting elections officials refuse to certify elections they disagree with is a dangerous, slippery slope – one I’m glad the N.C. State Board of Elections wasn’t willing to go down.
The State Board Chairman said it best:
“Those who administer elections must follow the law as it is written, not how they want it to be.”
I couldn’t agree more!
You know, since November 2020, election deniers have threatened the very foundation of our democracy. I love to see them held accountable, and I’ll bet you feel the same.
Like the NC State Board of Elections, we all need to stand up for democracy where and when we can. That’s actually been my life’s work for the last two years – fighting against voter suppression, for voters, and for democracy.
Help our teams fight for voters and against voter suppression by donating today. When you give to Power the Vote using this link, your entire donation goes towards funding voter protection staff in North Carolina! [[link removed]]

It’s hard to believe because it seems like yesterday, but I co-founded Power the Vote just about two years ago. Like you, I saw the threat of election deniers. But I also saw the opportunity to fight back by creating a completely new – and better – voter protection program.
And then I surprised everyone and quit my full-time law firm job to make that dream a reality.
And here we are, two years later, with the permanent, year-round voter protection teams that we support doing the work day in and day out. They develop relationships with pro-democracy county boards of elections that want to help citizens vote, and help voters who would otherwise be shut out of our democracy.
But sometimes their work also means shining a light on those who would suppress voters – or, like these two NC County Board of Elections members, refuse to certify a valid election.
Either way, the teams we support are always there, fighting for voters and for democracy.
You can start fighting ‘24 election deniers now. When you donate through this link, your support goes towards funding voter protection staff in North Carolina. [[link removed]]
So if you’ve been wondering if you can help fight back against election deniers – I’m here to tell you: yes you can! You don’t have to sit on the sidelines and wait for the next election to come closer.
The work is already underway.
It’s also only possible because of people like you. So, thanks in advance for your support.
In solidarity~

We Fund Voter Protection [[link removed]]
In 2020, we ran the Democratic Party’s Voter Protection Program in Georgia, when the state flipped blue for the first time in nearly 30 years.
We pioneered a new model of voter protection, built on sustained investments and long-lasting relationships.
Now, we’re building on that success and adapting the Georgia model to fight voter suppression in other battleground states.
But we can only do it with your support. Join us – and join the fight for voter protection!
