Weekly Newsletter from the Office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino If you were forwarded this email, click here to subscribe An update from the office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino SPOTLIGHT Andrew Joins Speaker McCarthy and Bipartisan Congressional Delegation Overseas to Meet With World Leaders This week, in order to strengthen U.S. standing abroad, foster stronger relationships with our allies, and advance America's national security interests, Andrew took part in an international congressional delegation trip with Speaker McCarthy where he met with foreign leaders and U.S. troops stationed abroad, and participated in foreign policy discussions. As a Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, strengthening the homeland through coordination with our allies is a top priority for Andrew in Congress. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew Honors Bellport Firefighters Yesterday, the Bellport Fire Department held its annual installation dinner. Andrew recognized several firefighters for outstanding achievements during their service to our community with Congressional certificates including 50 year member William Hermus Jr., Rookie of the Year Jeremy Butler, and Tyler Furia and Ron Carter for receiving the Chief Award, among others. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Preventing Flood Insurance Rate Hike A West Islip constituent had her home flood insurance canceled through no fault of her own and would have had to abide by increased rates and penalties under a new policy. After the constituent contacted our office, Andrew's casework team became involved and the company reversed their decision and reinstated the original rate and terms saving the constituent thousands of dollars a year in new rates and penalties. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need for the federal government. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Seeks Answers About Child Labor Reports Related To Border Crisis This week, Andrew joined more than 70 of his colleagues in sending a letter to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra seeking answers about reports that HHS has been unable to contact 85,000 child migrants now in the U.S. and that the surge in child migrants at the border has coincided with a rise in child labor. The Members said in part, "It is the responsibility of HHS to properly vet the people these children are being released to and to protect them from being exploited. Yet, it has been reported that caseworkers feel rushed to move children out of government custody quickly and are not fully vetting the people to whom the children are released. Thus, putting these minors in dangerous environment." Last Congress, Andrew introduced legislation to improve screenings of sponsors for unaccompanied migrant children. Andrew Recognized For Championing Local Zoos The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) recently recognized Andrew as a champion for AZA-accredited facilities like the Bronx Zoo. Andrew serves as co-chair of the Congressional Zoo & Aquarium Caucus which supports conservation, education, science, and recreation efforts of local zoos and aquariums. Thanks for reading!
