ACTION SPOTLIGHT

A real chance to end the scourge of PFAS!
Tell the EPA: No more toxic "forever" chemicals in our water

The Environmental Protection Agency has
proposed groundbreaking new regulations on six highly toxic PFAS
chemicals found in drinking water. This is a crucial first step
toward tackling this massive public health crisis — but we need
the EPA to do more to protect against PFAS.

Exposure to PFAS — known as "forever" chemicals because they are
extremely resistant to breaking down in the environment — has
been linked to a long list of health effects, including cancer,
immune suppression, and developmental harm.

But every day, millions of people across
the country drink water contaminated with PFAS. Unfortunately,
PFAS are almost impossible to avoid. They are found in our homes,
our offices, our supermarkets — practically everywhere. What's
worse, manufacturers don't have to disclose to consumers that
they're using them. It needs to stop.

Submit a public comment to the EPA before the May 30th deadline
urging the strongest possible protections from PFAS in our
drinking water. ( [link removed] )

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Tell President Biden, EPA, and DOT:
Finalize the strongest possible clean vehicle standards

Transportation is the largest source of
climate pollution in the U.S. and is also a major source of other
harmful pollutants that significantly impact public health,
causing deadly diseases such as asthma, heart problems, and
cancer.

President Biden's EPA and Department of Transportation (DOT) are
proposing new standards for cars and big trucks and buses, so we
have an important opportunity to encourage them to finalize
strong standards that will reduce pollution and help ensure the
transition toward zero-emission electric vehicles.

Cleaner vehicles are a winner all around. They deliver savings on
fuel, support domestic job creation, help clean up the air, and
protect the climate.

Sign our petition to President Biden, EPA, and DOT urging them to
finalize the strongest possible clean vehicle standards. ( [link removed] )

BIG WINS

* NRDC Report: U.S. Climate Action
Delivers Economic Gains: A new report shows that a handful of key
strategies can put the United States on the way to its climate
goals while delivering billions of dollars in cost savings over
the coming decades. Last year's Inflation Reduction Act was a
historic step forward, but there's still more work to be done.

* Finally, a Global Treaty to Protect the High Seas: The high
seas are the aquatic equivalent of the Wild West — a place of
loose regulation and lax enforcement. But now, at long last, the
United Nations has announced a new, much needed high seas treaty
after more than twenty years of negotiations. Read more > ( [link removed] )

* California Accelerates its Fight Against Freight Pollution: We
won three huge victories for clean air and climate action in the
West. In Colorado and California, new rules passed to accelerate
the move away from heavily polluting trucks toward clean,
electric alternatives. California also passed a rule to clean up
diesel-spewing locomotives. These rules will help keep
communities safe from harmful emissions linked to asthma, heart
disease, and premature deaths. Read more > ( [link removed] )

ACTION ROUNDUP

* Tell EPA to Protect Public Health
from Power Plant Pollution: ( [link removed] ) Power plants are among the country's largest sources of
mercury, a neurotoxin that can harm children's developing nervous
systems and reduce their ability to think and learn. EPA's newly
proposed standards to protect health are a good start, but they
don't go far enough. Urge EPA to further strengthen safeguards
against mercury and toxic air pollution! Take action > ( [link removed] )

* Protect Critically Endangered Rice's Whales from Offshore
Drilling: ( [link removed] ) Critically endangered Rice's whales may be the most endangered
whale on the planet, with fewer than 100 critically endangered
Rice's whales left in existence. Tell the Bureau of Ocean Energy
Management to reject dirty energy, seismic blasting, and lease
sales that directly threaten one of the most endangered whales in
the world. Take action > ( [link removed] )

* Tell Congress to Protect U.S. Forests and Communities from the
Biomass Industry: ( [link removed] ) The forest biomass industry is built on disinformation. It's
just another name for cutting down and burning trees — and
contributing to climate-wrecking carbon pollution. Tell Congress
that forest biomass is NOT clean energy. Take action > ( [link removed] )
