Student Nurses Assn. Appoints Long-Time Leader as New E.D.
The National Student Nurses&rsquo; Association has appointed of Kenya D. Williams, EdD, RN, RP, as executive director beginning August 1. Currently its deputy executive director, Williams started her leadership path with NSNA some 18 years ago as the Missouri Student Nurses&rsquo; Association St. Louis Area District officer, going on to be elected as the first African American woman to serve as president of the NSNA and, later, its foundation.

Engaging Patients From All Backgrounds Is A Way to Health Equity
While health care organizations have improved in five of six measures of quality set out in 2001 by the then-named Institute of Medicine&mdash;aiming for efficiency, effectiveness, safety, timeliness, and being patient-centered&mdash; they&rsquo;ve struggled with the last, equitability. In a blog on the Campaign website, Mila Sprouse, EdD, MSN, RN, shows 2021 survey results from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement that suggest ways health organizations can better support equity goals.

Nursing Organizations To Shape Shared Vision at Webinar
Professional nursing organizations need to coordinate with each other to address the social determinants of health and improve health equity for all. That&rsquo;s the top recommendation in the Future of Nursing 2020-2030 report&mdash;and creating that shared agenda is the purpose of a May 10 webinar that includes representatives from the National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations, Council of Public Health Nursing Organizations, and the National League for Nursing.

New - Two-Year Research Grants Support Health Equity Scholars
To support research that identifies the systemic root causes of U.S. health inequities, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation invites applications for its Health Equity Scholars for Action 2023, research grants for those with terminal degrees and a position at an accredited school. Grants will be awarded &ldquo;to address the challenges that those from historically underrepresented backgrounds typically experience and help them overcome obstacles to earning tenure.&rdquo; Deadline: May 31.
