Dear Friend,
Earth Month 2023 is nearly at an end, and it’s a great time to reflect on what we can all do moving forward to protect species biodiversity. The stakes are high – between one third to one half of all species could be at risk of extinction by 2100 – and the clock is ticking.
The good news is that most of Earthjustice’s work – and by extension, the actions we send your way – is rooted in defense of biodiversity since this loss is driven by industrial interests that maintain an economic system which sacrifices our people and wildlife for profit. Mining, fossil fuel extraction, overfishing, and logging are all examples of how ecosystems and communities experience biodiversity loss. We must do all we can to address these extractive activities, but we cannot ignore the root causes or else we will be stuck in a constant cycle of addressing the symptoms but never repairing the source of the harm. We can do this together by advocating for biodiversity conservation and protection, supporting Indigenous sovereignty, curtailing industries that profit from destruction, and forging new systems that respect our interdependent relationship with all life on Earth.
This is a difficult task, but I remain hopeful because of the relentless activism of Earthjustice action-takers. There are countless people, just like you, who know a better world is possible. We can do this together – with your help.
You can do that today by clicking here to take all the actions below.

Urge the Biden administration to tackle the biodiversity crisis
The world is facing a biodiversity crisis. A million of Earth’s species face the possibility of extinction due to the climate crisis. This extinction crisis means fewer pollinators for agriculture, depleted fisheries, and disappearing places like climate forests and wetlands. Our fate is linked to the same ecosystems that other species depend on. The Biden administration can lead the U.S. in reversing the biodiversity crisis, but it must act now.

Restore federal protections for Florida’s wetlands
We need your help to protect some of the most important wetlands in America. Florida wetlands are vitally important: Countless Florida species, many of them endangered, rely on wetlands to support the web of life. They naturally restore water quality and filter the agricultural and stormwater runoff which fuels toxic algae outbreaks. They support Florida tribes’ cultures and customs. Urge the EPA to restore the federal protections and resources that Florida’s wetlands depend on.

Protect Gulf of Mexico whale from extinction
The Gulf of Mexico whale is the only large whale species that lives year-round in the waters of the United States. Due to fossil fuel development and other human activities, it is the most endangered whale species in the world. Fewer than 100 individuals of these rare whales remain. Urge the Biden administration to protect the endangered Gulf of Mexico whale from extinction.

Restore protections for Northern Rockies wolves
The gray wolf species in the Northern Rockies has faced its most severe threat in a century. While an Earthjustice lawsuit restored protections for wolves in 44 states, due to administrative maneuvers, wolves remain unprotected in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and portions of several adjacent states. We are calling for federal Endangered Species Act protections for wolves in the Northern Rockies.
