“Humanity is on thin ice—and that ice is melting fast.” That’s how UN Secretary General António Guterres summarized the final warning from the body’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Immediate action is needed to protect birds and the places they need—the places we all need—while there’s still time to do so.
Audubon acts on behalf of birds—and we’ve shown that where there’s action, there’s hope. You become a part of it when you join in our Earth Day challenge today: Will you be one of 97 dependable new monthly donors we need to help unlock an additional $15,000 to protect climate-vulnerable birds like the Golden-winged Warbler and Rufous Hummingbird? This Earth Day, birds are at a tipping point
More than half of U.S. bird species are in decline.
389 North American bird species are at increasing risk of climate extinction.
3 billion birds have vanished in less than a human lifetime.
As we prepare to celebrate Earth Day tomorrow, 70 species, including the Golden-winged Warbler and Rufous Hummingbird, have lost 50% or more of their populations in the past 50 years—and are on track to lose another half or more over the next decades. But because birds have been telling us for quite some time that we must take climate action—and because we have listened—we’re already protecting vulnerable birds in every landscape where we work.
With the support of generous people like you, we’re restoring and improving the resilience of important landscapes; successfully advocating for climate legislation at the state and federal levels; transforming communities into places where birds flourish; and securing space, clean air, and clean water that birds and people need to live and thrive.
But we can—and must—do more while there’s still time. Please, be one of 97 supporters we’re counting on to join us with a monthly donation this Earth Day while, thanks to a group of generous donors, you’ll help unlock $15,000 more for birds and their habitats. ([link removed])
