Youth activists gather in D.C. to demand action on flavored tobacco products ([link removed])

One year after the FDA proposed to remove menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars from U.S. markets, youth activists from across the country will come together in the nation’s capital to raise their voices for a future free of flavored tobacco products. As part of the annual Moment of Action with truth ([link removed]) ^®, the national youth smoking, vaping, and nicotine public education campaign, these young people will call on the FDA to take action to finalize the proposed rules once and for all. This year’s event leverages decades of research to declare loudly that Nicotine Addiction Shouldn’t Taste Like Candy – shedding light on the tobacco industry’s continued tactics of using flavors which can attract young people, putting their physical and mental health at risk.

E-cigarette use among young people returning to pre-COVID-19 levels ([link removed])

Following a decline in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, 15- to 20-year-olds are as likely to be using e-cigarettes as those surveyed before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to new Truth Initiative research published in PLOS One ([link removed]) . The study also found that young adults ages 21 to 24 are more likely to be e-cigarette users compared to the same age group surveyed before the pandemic. The re-emergence of e-cigarette use among young people as COVID-19 restrictions fade away calls for stronger policies, including restrictions on youth-appealing flavored tobacco products and expanding quitting and prevention resources.
