Jack, when you give to Save the Redwoods League, you not only protect the magnificent coast redwoods and giant sequoia — you also protect the spellbinding creatures that rely on them.
Here are a few ways your gift to the League helps researchers and scientists better understand and protect the species that call the redwoods home:
Marbled Murrelets are federally threatened seabirds, which nest in old-growth trees, and typically lay only one egg per season. Research funded by Save the Redwoods League and its supporters uncovered a strategy for preserving the marbled murrelet: reducing human “handouts” to scrub jays, a predator of the murrelet. However, there is some hope! Research has indicated that bat populations in coast redwood forests may exhibit greater resistance to this disease.

Northern flying squirrels, Douglas squirrels, and other small mammals and birds are supported by the League’s forest restoration. In turn, preserving small mammals also supports the threatened northern spotted owl and the rare Humboldt marten that prey on them. [link removed] [[link removed]]

Salamanders find refuge in the coast redwood forests amidst the escalating threats of climate change. The League recently funded research to learn more about the relationship between forest health and amphibian health. hhttps://www.savetheredwoods.org/press-releases/save-the-redwoods-league-grants-more-than-160000-for-new-scientific-research-in-the-coast-redwood-and-giant-sequoia-ranges/?emci=422ff61d-59d9-ed11-8e8b-00224832eb73&emdi=27b73363-29de-ed11-8e8b-00224832eb73&contactdata=Q1xLVb3JgPJFeKMJrNX91uRykKtH4+URUqb/G5JNAgHJKm4j48v2fA5ZjuxZ2Z2mc08UMB5hBhj3Alt5mW7Lpy+fh52vLeKD743YPssuACmlxAgMWkO04HokKLcdL9HeDHzcb2P2J9zOSMkC+jnKMVODSfm36oIk6lnHddr6faZmXKM9ax1nRSGjoBH1lzuk&sourceid=1163408 [hhttps://www.savetheredwoods.org/press-releases/save-the-redwoods-league-grants-more-than-160000-for-new-scientific-research-in-the-coast-redwood-and-giant-sequoia-ranges/?emci=422ff61d-59d9-ed11-8e8b-00224832eb73&emdi=27b73363-29de-ed11-8e8b-00224832eb73&contactdata=Q1xLVb3JgPJFeKMJrNX91uRykKtH4+URUqb/G5JNAgHJKm4j48v2fA5ZjuxZ2Z2mc08UMB5hBhj3Alt5mW7Lpy+fh52vLeKD743YPssuACmlxAgMWkO04HokKLcdL9HeDHzcb2P2J9zOSMkC+jnKMVODSfm36oIk6lnHddr6faZmXKM9ax1nRSGjoBH1lzuk&sourceid=1163408]
