Jack, when you give to Save the Redwoods League, you not only protect the magnificent coast redwoods and giant sequoia — you also protect the spellbinding creatures that rely on them.
Here are a few ways your gift to the League helps researchers and scientists better understand and protect the species that call the redwoods home:
Marbled Murrelets are federally threatened seabirds, which nest in old-growth trees, and typically lay only one egg per season. Research funded by Save the Redwoods League and its supporters uncovered a strategy for preserving the marbled murrelet: reducing human “handouts” to scrub jays, a predator of the murrelet. |
Bats are a top conservation priority, due in part to the alarming decline of bat populations worldwide caused by the devastating fungal disease known as white-nose syndrome. However, there is some hope! Research has indicated that bat populations in coast redwood forests may exhibit greater resistance to this disease. |
Northern flying squirrels, Douglas squirrels, and other small mammals and birds are supported by the League’s forest restoration. In turn, preserving small mammals also supports the threatened northern spotted owl and the rare Humboldt marten that prey on them. |
Forest owl communities, including spotted owls, are threatened by the expanded range of the barred owl. Save the Redwoods League recently awarded funding to a research team assessing the impact of barred owls. |
Salamanders find refuge in the coast redwood forests amidst the escalating threats of climate change. The League recently funded research to learn more about the relationship between forest health and amphibian health. |
None of this important work would be possible without forest lovers like you. Your support is growing the knowledge base that ultimately enables us to protect these special animals.

Thank you for all the ways your support promotes biodiversity in the coast redwood forests.
