John, we’ve got
an important question for you:
Should COURIER open a newsroom in Texas?

[2]( ) No

Now, here’s why we’re asking.
Just last week, a Trump-appointed district judge in Texas suspended the
FDA’s approval of mifepristone — a lifesaving drug used for medication
abortion and miscarriages.
Instead of being based on facts and science, this ruling is rooted in
politically-charged misinformation. Throughout his ruling, the judge
echoes language used by anti-abortion activists and the right-wing media
to undermine mifepristone’s proven safety — nearly word for word.
The best way to fight back against this kind of bad information and defend
our rights is with good information. That’s where we come in.
At COURIER, we call out misinformation and counter it with fact-filled,
accessible state and local news stories. We’re taking our fight against
bad information directly to states that need trustworthy local newsrooms
like us — states like Texas.
Still, opening a newsroom isn’t a decision we make lightly. It takes a ton
of time and resources, from hiring journalists to building a network of
readers. Your support and input have helped guide us before.
