[[link removed]]CAMPAIGNS UPDATE
April 2023
Dear John
We’re excited to share with you that we’re an official partner of The Big Help Out [[link removed]] , a nationwide volunteering event to mark the King’s coronation on Saturday 6
May.
As part of this, we're launching Hedgelife Help Out
[[link removed]] , your opportunity to help us build a picture of the health of our country's
hedgerows throughout the month of May. Read on to find out how you can get
involved.
Did you know that today marks the start of International Dark Skies Week
[[link removed]] ? We’ve been busy crunching the numbers from the Star Counts you did back in
February and will be sharing the results with you very soon. In the meantime,
scroll down to find out how you can help take action on light pollution.
With warmer and lighter days now ahead of us, we hope you get to spend some
quality time enjoying all the benefits nature has to offer. Nature writer
Alexandra Pearce-Broomhead shares what wildlife to look out for in your local
countryside and green spaces this month.

TAKE ACTION ON LIGHT POLLUTION THIS INTERNATIONAL DARK SKIES WEEK
Dark, starry skies are a special feature of our countryside. But as light
pollution has increased, many of us are no longer enjoying truly dark skies –
and it’s having a negative impact on the wildlife that rely on darkness, too. We
need to show our MPs that acting to reduce light pollution and increasing dark
skies will be better for people, nature and the climate. If you haven’t already,
can you take a moment to email your MP?

A new report shows that the countryside is beset by a ‘hidden homelessness’
crisis driven by soaring housing costs and a gaping shortfall in local authority
funding. This year-long study was commissioned by English Rural and co-funded by
a coalition of rural charities and housing associations (including CPRE). Click
below to read the report in full.
