** Hello John!
------------------------------------------------------------

We have got some really exciting news for you this April! To start with, we are delighted to announce that CC's 2022 State of the Commons annual report has just been published.

Throughout 2022, we remained steadfast in our pursuit of accelerating #BetterSharing to tackle the world's most pressing issues and advance the public good. The 2022 State of the Commons highlights our notable accomplishments, collaborations, and conversations, reflecting the hard work and dedication of the entire CC community.

Some of our standout achievements from 2022 include:

🌟 We exceeded our ambitious $15M fundraising goal raising over $16M to support programs like Open Culture, Open Climate, and Open Education.

🌍 Launched the four-year Open Climate Campaign ([link removed]) with SPARC and EIFL to promote open access to research on science and biodiversity to address the climate crisis.
🌐 Joined six other organizations spanning to launch the Movement for a Better Internet ([link removed]) , a diverse global community working together to promote policies that create a better internet for people everywhere.
πŸ”¬ Supported the White House mandate for all US government-funded research to be published freely with no embargo ([link removed]) , a goal we have been working towards for years.

πŸš€ Presented at over 20 major events, including the United Nations Transforming Education Summit and the World Economic Forum at Davos.

🎬 Launched Open Culture VOICES ([link removed]) , a multilingual CC video series Open GLAM experts from around the world season one reached over 3 million people.

** ➀ Better Sharing in the Age of AI
------------------------------------------------------------

πŸ€–As the world watches the rapid evolution of generative artificial intelligence (AI), Creative Commons is closely following developments to understand the many complex issues that come with these innovative new tools.

πŸ” Our primary focus is on the intersection of copyright law and generative AI, and we're committed to ensuring that our strategy for #BetterSharing supports the development of this technology, while respecting the work of human creators and contributing to a better internet for all.

πŸ“ Through a series of blog posts by our team and guest contributors ([link removed]) , we are exploring concerns related to AI inputs (training data) to the implications of AI outputs (works created by AI tools).

πŸ†• ([link removed]) Our two most recent blog posts of the series tackle two crucial issues:
Part 1 - Whether copyright should protect artistic style ([link removed]) , and
Part 2 - Whether generative AI (GAI) tools should be responsible if users create works that may infringe on works by other artists ([link removed]) .
