Dear John,
Spring has sprung in Maine! With it comes the arrival of migratory birds, readying their summer homes; wildflowers in bloom (bluets are my favorite); AND, of course, Earth Day!
I hope you will plan to join us [[link removed]] for our Earth Day Beach Cleanup next Saturday, April 22, from 10 AM-12 PM at Old Orchard Beach.

We’re delighted to be partnering with Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation [[link removed]] on this event and excited to feature a short presentation on endangered Piping Plovers from the Maine Audubon Coastal Birds Project [[link removed]] .

A huge thank you to Beach Cleanup sponsors: Lee Auto [[link removed]] , Bristol Seafood [[link removed]] , Coast of Maine [[link removed]] , and Luke's Lobster [[link removed]] ! And to Cafe 64 [[link removed]] in Old Orchard Beach for providing snacks for volunteers. After the clean-up, there will be a raffle for all our volunteers with fun prizes – lots of great gear from Patagonia [[link removed]] and Holy Donut [[link removed]] !

Together, we’ll learn more about the science behind the trash that undoubtedly makes its way to Maine’s beaches, discuss the importance of healthy marine ecosystems, and take action to help clean up one of our state’s most popular beaches.

See you on the beach,

Maggie Somers | she/her
