Opening Circle Session with Restorative Justice Practitioner, Kay Pranis
Kay Pranis has authored or co-authored several books about circles: Peacemaking Circles - From Conflict to Community; The Little Book of Circle Processes – A New/Old Approach to Peacemaking; Doing Democracy with Circles – Engaging Communities in Public Planning; Heart of Hope – A Guide for Using Peacemaking Circles to Develop Emotional Literacy, Promote Healing & Build Healthy Relationships; Circle Forward – Building a Restorative School Community.
Kay has a particular interest in the use of circles to support social justice efforts addressing racial, economic, class and gender inequities. That interest includes the use of peacemaking circles to understand and respond to historical harms to groups of people. The peacemaking circle process has been a source of energy, inspiration and continuous learning for Kay for the past 25 years.

Workshop: Use of Storytelling as a Restorative Practice Tool to Unpack Intergenerational Trauma, and Capture Wisdom and Healing with Meghna Bhat, Ph.D.
Meghna Bhat, Ph.D. (she/her) is a renowned national gender and social justice consultant, educator, feminist scholar, and storyteller based in Sacramento, California. Born and raised in Mumbai, India, her lived experiences of gender violence and witnessing intergenerational cycles of trauma motivated her to be an outspoken social justice advocate. Dr. Bhat has 18+ years of extensive work experience in diverse settings centered in campus, organizations and communities.
Using creative, inclusive, accessible, and innovative tools such as storytelling, multidisciplinary art, and writing, she is committed to fostering narrative and social change and community dialogue about intergenerational cycles of abuse, trauma, and/or legacy and learning. Dr. Bhat is the creator and curator of Gulabi Stories: A South Asian Healing Initiative, which uses storytelling to address healing, health, etc within the larger South Asian diaspora community.
