Bragg Should Focus on NYC crime, Not Trump <[link removed]> - Never before in our nation’s history has a former President been indicted. Regardless of the merits of any charges, it’s likely that the only reason investigators focused on Trump in the first place is because of who he is. Based on the indictment and statement of facts, Bragg is essentially elevating New York state misdemeanor offenses for falsifying business records to low-level felony offenses by alleging that Trump (or others at his direction) falsified the business records “with the intent” to cover up other crimes. While these other crimes aren’t specified in the indictment itself, they are likely state and federal campaign finance violations. Yet, neither the Federal Election Commission nor the U.S. Justice Department, which are responsible for enforcing federal campaign finance laws, pursued charges based on the same conduct now at issue in this indictment.
