Here are some updates from the last few days.
Today, North Carolina Democratic state Rep. Tricia Cotham confirmed reports that she is joining the Republican Party, giving the GOP a veto-proof supermajority in both chambers of the Legislature.[link removed]
Yesterday, Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Janet Protasiewicz won the race for the open seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. In doing so, she flipped the balance of the court from a 4-3 conservative majority to a 4-3 liberal majority. [link removed]
Also yesterday, Idaho Gov. Brad Little (R) signed a bill tightening proof of ID and residency requirements needed to register to vote. [link removed]
On Thursday, March 30, the Texas Senate’s State Affairs Committee advanced multiple anti-voting bills to the Senate floor. The bills impact multiple aspects of elections in the Lone Star State, including in-person voting, election irregularities and voter purges. [link removed]
Also, the U.S. Department of Justice has filed a brief urging the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to affirm a lower court ruling that grants a civil rights group access to Alabama's records about voter registrations that were canceled and denied since 2020. [link removed]
